How to Wire a 2007 Toyota Stereo

Owners of a 2007 Toyota may find the need to replace their factory stereo or may choose to upgrade their stereo with an aftermarket unit. Choose a stereo that fits your car audio needs and stays within your budget. You can have a new unit installed professionally by a car audio technician or you can do it yourself to save money.

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Faceplate adapter
  • Wiring harness adapter

      Raise the Toyota's hood and loosen the bolt holding the negative battery cable to the battery terminal with the wrench. Lift the cable from the battery and set it aside. Move to the inside of the vehicle.

      Twist the gear shift knob counter-clockwise and remove it. Pry the panel over the gear shift gates away from the center console with a trim panel removal tool. Remove the two screws at the sides of the storage panel below the stereo assembly with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the storage pocked from the dashboard and set it aside.

      Remove the vents from the upper dashboard panel by hand. Remove the two screws at the top and bottom of the stereo assembly with the screwdriver. Slide the stereo assembly from the dashboard.

      Remove the five screws on either side of the stereo bracket with the screwdriver. Slide the factory stereo from the bracket. Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the outlets on the back of the unit. Unplug the antenna cable lead from the back of the stereo deck.

      Slide the aftermarket stereo faceplate adapter into the stereo bracket. Replace the screws into the side of the bracket to match the holes on the faceplate adapter. Slide the new stereo into the faceplate adapter until it snaps into place.

      Plug the Toyota's stereo wiring into the wiring harness adapter leads. Connect the adapter's lead connectors to the outlets on the rear panel of the new stereo. Insert the antenna cable lead into the FM antenna input on the rear panel of the new head unit.

      Slide the stereo assembly back into the Toyota's stereo mounting dock. Replace the two screws at the top and bottom of the assembly with the screwdriver. Replace the vents above the stereo and press firmly to snap them back into place.

      Place the storage pocket back into the dashboard opening below the stereo and climate controls and screw in the screws with the screwdriver. Place the panel back over the shift gates and press firmly to snap it back onto the center console. Screw on the gear shift knob and return to the Toyota's battery.

      Place the negative battery cable clamp back around the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench and close the Toyota's hood.
