How to Change Which Doors Unlock on a Toyota HSD Prius

How to Change Which Doors Unlock on a Toyota HSD Prius

On top of the environmental benefits of a Toyota Prius, it also offers technological perks to its owner. One such perks is the ability to change which doors unlock when you touch a locked door on cars equipped with a Smart Key System. The car's default is set so that the car unlocks all of the doors when the person holding the fob opens the front passenger door, but you can easily modify this.

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

    • 1

Know your default setting. Opening the front passenger door unlocks all of the doors. Touching the hatch handle also opens all of the doors, including the hatch.

    • 2

Understand the way to change your unlock settings. You do this by pushing the door lock button and then the panic button on the fob for about 5 seconds.

    • 3

Wait for the first beep. After that beep, let go of the buttons. Now the driver's handle unlocks all of the doors.

    • 4

Hold both of the buttons down until you hear the second beep to force the driver, passenger and hatch handles to unlock individually.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pressing these two buttons makes the car cycle through the different settings. If you don't like the setting the car is on and have forgotten the sequence of beeps, just keep pressing the buttons until you've found the correct setting.

  • Make sure you press the door lock button before pressing the panic button or you're going to receive a noisy surprise.
