How to Stop Theft of the Toyota Tacoma Catalytic Converter

The catalytic converter in a Toyota Tacoma truck contains precious metals such as platinum inside the converter element. These precious metals are coveted by scrap yards and metal processors who pay premium prices for used catalytic converters. This market leads to an increasing number of catalytic converter thefts. Changing the way you park your vehicle and installing an alarm will dramatically reduce the chances of your converter being stolen.

Instructions

    • 1

Park your vehicle inside a garage or parking ramp whenever possible. This prevents would-be converter thieves from accessing the vehicle.

    • 2

Avoid parking in isolated areas. If you have to park outside, park on a busy street or near a well-populated area in order to discourage thieves from attempting to access your converter.

    • 3

Don't leave your vehicle outside at night, even in your own driveway. Many thieves wait for the cover of night to being their illicit activities.

    • 4

Install an alarm on your vehicle that includes a motion or shock sensor. Removing a catalytic converter creates a considerable amount of noise and vibration which would trigger a motion or shock sensor in an alarm.
