How to Convert Toyota Supra MK3 Headlights

Convert your headlights to HID with just a few simple tools.

The Toyota Supra MK3 had a loyal following and can still be seen on America's highways today. This mid-range sports car came standard with a traditional incandescent lightbulb. However, the newer HID lights can provided a stronger and more consecrated beam that will last longer as well. If you want to convert the headlights of your Supra they are readily available in HID conversion kits that make this job a snap.

     Drive your Toyota Supra MK3 to a flat and level parking lot or driveway that has plenty of natural light and turn the engine off. You'll be working in the engine bay which can get extremely hot. Be sure to let the car cool for at least 20 minutes before continuing.

     Pull the hood release latch and pop the hood. Go directly behind the first headlight you want to convert to HID and find the wiring harness. This is how power is delivered from the Supra's electrical system to the headlight assembly. Unplug the wiring harness to access the interior of the headlight.

     Reach into the headlight assembly and grasp the bulb. You may need to wiggle the assembly out a couple inches, depending on the size of your hand. Turn the bulb a quarter turn to the left to loosen and remove it.

     Open the HID conversion kit and remove the components: HID bulb, ballast with connecting wire and double-sided tape. Insert the HID bulb into the Supra's headlight socket. Turn it to the right to lock it in place.

     Attach the ballast to the back of the headlight assembly with some of the double-sided tape. Connect the car's wiring harness to the ballast. Then use the connecting wire to connect the ballast to the headlight assembly.

     Repeat the above steps for the remaining headlight for a complete conversion to HID headlights. Then close hood.
